Convince Facebook to Use Green Energy

Your social networking is being powered by the dirtiest of pollutants, coal. Facebook’s new data center is opting for the cheaper option of coal-powered energy over hydroelectric power. Are our status updates worth the damage to our planet? Tell Facebook that you will not support this irresponsible decision. Click here to take action.

Give LGBT Couples the Right to Sponsor Partner Immigration

Under current U.S. law a heterosexual couple can both live together in this country even if one of them is not yet a citizen. However, this law excludes same-sex couples. LGBT couples cannot receive a visa for their partners to come live with them in this country until the Uniting American Families Act is passed. Show your support for this bill by signing the petition and contacting your representatives. Click here to take action.

Help HuffPo Investigate Abuses in Student Debt Industry

The Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism, in partnership with the Huffington Post Investigative Fund, is examining the student loan crunch. In particular, they are investigating abusive practices by debt collectors—and the federal government’s response to these problems. They are interested in hearing if you or someone you know have had problems dealing with your debt collector. They are also interested in your dealings with the government’s mediator, known as the Department of Education’s Ombudsman office. Click here to take action.

Stop the Underhanded Funding of Abstinence-Only Education

Pro-life politicians are looking for a way to get around President’s Obama’s ban of federal funding for abstinence-only education, including adding amendments to the healthcare bill that progressives are eager to get passed. If we let it go unnoticed children in public schools will continue to be ignorant about safe sex practices and we will raise another generation with the detriments of a failed education. Tell Congress that they don’t need to waste $250 million dollars on Title V abstinence-only funding, a program that doesn’t work. Let them know you want the reconciliation bill to be responsible health care reform!

Recommend Healthy Options for School Lunches

Remember the public school lunches you were forced to eat growing up? We’ve featured stories on the lack of nutrition served up to school children all over the country. The kids who rely on the lunch provided in the cafeteria could not eat healthily if they wanted to, and we wonder why child obesity rates are skyrocketing and the First Lady has made it her focus to curb that trend. The Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine is urging Congress to demand more vegetables, fruits, vegetarian options, and non-dairy foods be included in school cafeterias. Sign on to back that request, don’t make kids go through the same experiences you did.
